In Wisconsin

Tuesday, January 4th, 2005

I arrived in Wisconsin yesterday. Today, the house was bought, papers were signed, and checks were handed out and deposited. I now have two houses until January 31st.

Every once in a while I experience a feeling of disbelief that I am here and not in Arizona. The disbelief is then compounded with the re-realization that I won’t be going “home” - that I am home already and that this home, as strange as it is, is the only home I have, even if I have two houses.

It riced today. It seemed like it was raining, but it was actually raining ice…ricing. The little pellets sounded like rice grains.

The streets aren’t marked well here. Phoenix’s street signs on major thoroughfares are large, plastic, and backlighted. You can see them for a quarter mile before you actually get to the intersection. There are no street signs in Wisconsin, only the small metal ones that you have to squint at to read in the dark. None of the signs out here say “Rancho del Oro Drive.” I find myself wishing I could go back to a certain house on a certain street of that name.

Oh-con-no-mo-walk, eh?

The Prettiness Gets Prettier

Behold, Rounded Version 0.2.11! Far from complete, but it now has a purty green bar across the middle and some snowflakes in the background. Due to my perfectionist nature, it took about three hours to finish this, partly because the original XHTML/CSS for the green bar was rendering correctly in Gecko but not in Trident (geek speek for “it looked great in Firefox but Internet Explorer ate it too fast and hlaaled it back out onto my screen”). Reworking it so that the bar is now positioned absolutely above the rest of the page fixed the problem.
